Another shot was made during the evacuation of Pinzel’s pieces. The restorer is holding the figure of Abraham from the scene of the Binding of Isaac at the All Saints Church in Hodowica. The image was carved from limewood in the late 1750s. Lviv was at the crossroads of northern and southern influences. Being on the periphery of the Catholic world, numerous architects of Italian origin were invited to work there, like Paolo Dominici Romanus. It was also the place where some humanists, like Filippo Buonaccorsi, found shelter from being persecuted by the Church in Italian lands. Northern influence was brought into the city by migrants from German territories, mostly merchants and craftsmen from Rheinland and Saxony. Similarly, Pinzel’s oeuvre contains the echoes of both southern and northern cultural realms: it has the baroque exuberance of Nicola Fumo’s wooden religious sculptures and the grotesque hypertrophy of forms in the altarpieces by Franz Ignaz Günther.
